Valerie T. Smith is an acclaimed singer-songwriter, musician, and educator whose career spans gospel, pop, rock, R&B, and beyond. A standout contestant on Season 25 of The Voice, Valerie made a lasting impression by securing a four-chair turn during the Blind Auditions, ultimately advancing to the Top 24.
As the Owner of B Natural Music Group, Valerie has released singles and albums that have earned critical acclaim, including her 2016 EP Dream, which debuted at #18 on the Gospel Albums Billboard Chart. Her single "Your Grace" (2011) and "Break Free" (2014) also helped solidify her as a notable independent artist.
Valerie’s musical journey began in high school, where she started teaching piano, music theory, and vocal performance. She went on to study Music at The University of Alabama at Birmingham and holds an Associate and Bachelor's degree in both Business Administration and Management. Valerie is currently in grad school at Berklee College of Music pursuing her Master's degree in Music Business. Her passion for education continues as she nurtures young talent and shares her expertise with the next generation of artists.
In addition to her recording career, Valerie has had a distinguished presence in the theater. She landed her first leading role in Sophisticated Ladies in 2008 and has since appeared in several stage productions, including Holiday Inn (2022), The Best Man Musical Stage Play (2019), and His Side, Her Side, and the Truth Part 2 (2019).
Valerie’s rich background as both a recording artist and a live performer includes collaborations with gospel legend Yolanda Adams, country music icons Randy Owens, R&B greats Tony, Toni, Toné, and India.Arie, as well as hip-hop stars like Nelly. She has also worked with American Idol alumni Taylor Hicks, Bo Bice, and Ruben Studdard.
A highlight of her career was performing “We Shall Overcome” at the World Games 2022 Opening Ceremonies, watched by over 250 million people worldwide. Valerie has also been featured on the PBS concert-documentary Dreams of Hope, which has aired over 750 times nationwide and won Emmy Awards and 13 Telly Awards.
With a career that continues to evolve, Valerie is currently an independent artist, Worship and Arts Director at Northeast Bible Church in Garden Ridge, TX, and a professional background singer. She is also dedicated to her role as a mother of three (Jeremiah, Joshua, and Jordyn), balancing her family life with her diverse musical endeavors.
